Welcome to

Isshinryu Europe’s website!

IKAE is an Isshinryu association promoting Isshinryu in Europe. Isshinryu is now taught in an increasing part of European countries. This is why the IKAE was created on a AOKA(American Okinawan Karate Association) board meeting in July 2007.

Present at the meeting was Grand master Steve Young, Grand Master Mitch Kobylanski, Grand Master Ronald L. Boucher,Grand Master Albert Mady and Master Bill Salinardi.....and Lars Andersen of Denmark. The IKAE is sometimes referred to as AOKA Europe in the United States. However the IKAE accept all Isshinryu stylists who can trace their linage back to Tatsuo Shimabuku Sensei.

                        Mission Statement

Isshinryu Karate Association ofAmerican Okinawan Karate Association of

Europe                                                        Europe

The mission of our association is to promote Soke Tatsuo Shimabuku’s Isshinryu Karate System throughout the continent of Europe. It is our objective to provide European Isshinryu students and instructors with the shared experience of European Black Belt graduates and to give Europeans the opportunity to study and train with the Senior Masters of the Isshinryu System by supporting each others events and eventually have a European Isshinryu Karate Kobudo Championship with seminars and banquet.

Our association will set a standard for European Isshinryu Karate students and will seek to educate its members in the practice, application, principles and concepts of Shimabuku’s Isshinryu Karate System. It is the policy of our Association to provide leadership, guidance and education for our members. We will help our instructors to develop their Isshinryu knowledge to the standards demanded by Soke Shimabuku. We offer European Isshinryu instructors the opportunity to advance in rank and test with our International Board of Examiners.

Our association is proud to be a member of the American Okinawan Karate Association AOKA and we represent AOKA on the continent of Europe.

Membership of our Association is open to all European Isshinryu students. Membership involves representing our association in your area, province or country and giving your commitment to promoting the Soke Tatsuo Shimabuku’s Isshinryu Karate System. This involves learning and teaching the Isshinryu syllabus in your school and having regular instruction with a suitably qualified Isshinryu instructor or instructors.

All membership applications are subject to a strict system of verification; references and testimonials may be requested to support your membership application. We welcome the strengths and qualities that each new student, instructor and club brings to our Association. We value all past experience and greatly respect pervious martial arts achievements gained by our members.

Our qualified instructors and seniors members maintain their individual preferences and teaching methods while participating in a commonly held desire to promote the Soke Tatsuo Shimabuku’s Isshinryu Karate System in Europe.
